Weston-super-Mare AFC have announced the signing of Weston-born midfielder Luke Coulson from Dartford FC.
Playing in National Conference League South, the same as The Seagulls, Coulson scored 10 times in 45 appearances for Dartford last season.
Having spent his career amongst the top two levels of non-league football, the 30-year-old is capable of playing on either flank or as an attacking midfielder behind the striker.
Weston manager Scott Bartlett said of the new signing: “Luke is a player I know well and has been one of the top players in non-league for a number of years. This is a fantastic signing for us. He’s at a good age, with good experience.
“We had to move quickly because he had so much interest and we are delighted to welcome him to Weston-super-Mare AFC.
“He has a lot of ability, can play in a number of attacking positions and will add a directness to us.
“Luke can score and create and works so hard for the team. With good set play delivery, engine and experience, he will add a lot to us”.
Coulson was born in Weston but moved to Manchester when he was young, resulting in him playing in Manchester City’s youth academy for 10 years as child before spending some time in America, playing for the University of Michigan Wolverine’s.
After returning to England he has played much of his senior career in the South East region of the country, including for Eastleigh FC where he became both their record signing and their record sale during his 2015-17 stint.
Coulson signed for his previous club Dartford FC in 2022 and captained their side in the most recent campaign.
He has also been making moves off the pitch recently, turning his hand to coaching having managed the Bromley FC U17s side for the past two season.
Weston’s newest signing Coulson said: “I’m absolutely delighted.
“The conversations with the gaffer have gone on for a few weeks, but I’m really excited to get it over the line, (Bartlett) was a major reason why I signed here.
“I was born in Weston originally, all my family live here. We’ve relocated closer to the family.
“I was having conversations with a few clubs, but there was a major appeal to be here (at Weston).”
