Winscombe 1st XI put in a much improved performance this week, but weren’t able to force the victory falling to a two wicket defeat on their visit to newly promoted Castle Cary last Saturday.
Having chosen to bat Winscombe were given a decent start by openers Bradley and Cureton.
However, when Bradley fell for 13 two further wickets fell quickly.
Then Fin Mayo 18 and Alex Birt 26 supported Liam Cureton 50, who for the second week running was top scorer, but they were dismissed the innings looked like falling well short of a par score.
However, Ewan Griffiths and young Ben Osmond batted responsibly and were able to accelerate at the end of the innings, finishing 23 and 28 not out respectively and seeing Winscombe to a respectable 186 from their 45 overs.
Castle Cary shared the wickets around with Andrew Bartlett the pick, taking three for 31.
Winscombe’s bowlers made early in-roads with Clough taking two wickets and Griffiths one.
At 28-3 and then 90 odd- 5, Castle Cary were struggling but Tom Williams held things together against tight bowling from Fraser, 1-19, and Fin Mayo 2-21.
Eventually things became easier and with useful contributions from Atkins (22) and Elsworth (15) Cary reached their target for the loss of 8 wickets with 3 overs to spare.
Winscombe’s man of the match, sponsored by Farrons, was Liam Cureton.
Winscombe 2nd XI match was conceded leaving Winscombe top of their table after two games.
