Victoria Bowling Club had a very busy week this week and got off to a flying start on Tuesday when the Saxons had a superb win over last year’s runners up and neighbours Ashcombe Crusaders.

In ideal conditions the match began as expected with little to choose between the teams.

However, as the game progressed slowly but surely The Vic began to pull away to triumph 113-81.

The top rink was the Heal rink with Colin being ably assisted by Bromet and Wheatley 28-7.

Next up was the John Newman team of Coumis and Crawford 30-12. Final victors were Cooper, N Robbins and Campbell winning 19-11.

Captain Phil Owen was delighted with in this local derby which is always fiercely contested. 

Wednesday saw Victoria Vikings travel to Winscombe where they lost 93-122.

There were two winning rinks for The Vic via a great showing from the Johnson, Rossiter and Hubbard trio 31-11 and Stone, Kelly and Hollier 20-15.  

Victoria Ladies went into action on Friday hosting Ashcombe in the Wessex League.

The match began evenly with one rink going well for the visitors, one level and one for the Victorians.

However, the game began to swing in favour of The Vic when the B Williams, R Bailey, S Sokol and A Fewings came back from 5-7 down after eight ends to win by a staggering 25-10.

There was an even better showing from the B Jones. D Callister, E Wade and S Harrison team victorious by 29-08 resulting in Victoria winning 63-32.

Saturday morning saw the two clubs at battle again when the Vic Ladies Blues took on Ashcombe Ladies.

This time the victory was even more conclusive with The Vic winning by a superb 75-33 with all three rinks triumphant.

Leading the way F Waters rink involving A Culpeck, who had an excellent game and P Taylor.  Next up was the S Cooper, M Slavin and M Hawkins trio 19-11 and finally K Wilson, I Miles, and s Sokol 19-13. 

Saturday afternoon witnessed some revenge for Ashcombe when their B team overcame Victoria B in a close match 52-63.

The highlight for The Vic was the D Fairhurst team of Carmine, Campbell and Holland who won 26-18. 

Unfortunately, the Vic C team also lost 47-59 to Winscombe B 47-59; however, the Westonians will be pleased with the efforts of H Gibbs, R Rossiter, D Hubbard and R Stone who won their encounter 25-8.

Sunday saw the important Four Dimensions Knock Out competition when Victoria visited Winscombe.

Victoria began well when D Fairhurst bowled very well to win the singles 21-9. This was followed by another great showing when D Nutt and D Wheatley paired up to win 23-11.

The triplet of Davies, Heal and Carpenter and the quartet of Cooper, Gazzard, Owen and Sloman completed the whitewash for a result of 4-0 and finished off a very successful week at the Victoria Bowls Club.
