Uphill Castle CC were forced into a draw in their Premier Division home game against Lympsham and Belvedere CC this weekend, but they were led by a Chare Smith century before the Weston rain cancelled play.
Lympsham’s captain won the toss and put Castle into bat, opening the way for Smith’s 103.
He started in the middle but saw his team drop to 14-2 before the arrival of Geroge Cox to the square allowed Smith to accelerate the pace.
The two posted a partnership of 96 until Cox’s dismissal brought their team to 110-3, with Cox adding his own impressive innings of 35 from 33 balls, whilst Smith sat on 64.
Smith then went on to complete his maiden century with a rapid innings that included 13 fours and five sixes, propelling him to 103 from only 68 deliveries before being bowled in the 22nd.
Robert Taylor added 20 and Tom Llewewllyn 16 before Castle were toppled at the end of the 33rd over for 203-10.
Castle then managed to complete all of three deliveries before the heavens opened and the umpires were forced to call play off for a draw.
Uphill Castle have now lost one, drawn one, and conceded one in the league and go on to play Taunton Deane away this Saturday.
