Winscombe CC got a five wicket win over Wedmore CC in last week’s Weston and District Midweek League game of the week, but poor weather meant that only a reduced 15 overs could be played.
Wedmore opened the batting and got off to a good start as openers Jack Tonkin and Billy Halford hit a quick 29 and 38 respectively to bring the team past the half-century mark in good time.
Benjamin Osmond then struck for Winscombe as he dismissed both of Wedmore’s opening men.
Sam Tucker then came into bat for Wedmore and hit a comfortable 20 until he was removed by Finn Mayo, the first of the all-rounder’s three wickets for four runs in the game.
Mayo then went on to take the wicket of Toby Fayers for 11 runs and Jack Masters for 0, bringing Wedmore’s innings to a close on 110-5 after 15 overs.
Winscombe then came to the square and put in a real team performance with the bat to reach the target run score.
Openers Oscar Browne and George Frappell combined for 27 runs, Finlay Anderson hit 24, and Mayo added 18 runs to his three wickets as Winscombe reached the target after 14.2 overs, handing them the match and the 25 league points.
