The Saxons got Victoria Bowling Club’s week off to a great start with an outstanding win over Portishead RBL on Monday afternoon.

This was a great all-round performance from the Saxons team with five out of six rinks winning, no mean feat against reputable opponents.

Leading the way was the Heal, Bromet, and Milliner trio with a super 31-6 outcome, followed by a 21-8 win from Bradley, Rockett, and Holland.

The other triples to win for the Saxons were Owen, Carpenter, and Wheatley 25-19, Newman, Coumis, and Manning 17-12, and finally Cooper, N Robbins, and Campbell won 16-13, resulting in a final score of 126-78 to give the Victorians the win.

Thursday saw a run of four ladies matches begin.

The first game saw Victoria lose 43-61 against Congresbury, despite Wilson, Lawrence, and Sage attempting to spare the blushes with a great 20-13 win.

On Friday the ladies then welcomed Ashcombe in the Wessex League looking to continue their good run.

However they were given a fright after losing two rinks but were saved by the quartet of S Cooper, Bailey, Newman, and Stevens who recorded a match winning 27-6 triumph, to give Victoria a 54-40 advantage and the overall victory.

Saturday witnessed the Vic Whites and Blues in action in the County League with mixed fortunes.

The Blues went down to a strong team away at St. Andrews however the Whites beat Mark Moor 68-42, winning two of the three games played.

Leading the way were Stevens, Callister, and Jones with an emphatic 30-08 win, backed up by A Holland, E Williams, and B Williams who won 22-14.

The final match of the week was in the Tony Allcock National trophy which entails two rinks made up of four Ladies and four Men.

In ideal conditions visitors Street began well on rink three but this was being nullified by the Vic’s good start on rink four.

As the rubber progressed Victoria began to build an unassailable lead to win 40-24 and move on to the next round.

The winning rink comprised of Davies, Miles, Coumis, and Wilson, with skip Davies and Wilson particularly impressing in their 27-7 win.
