Ashcombe Park Bowling Club once again welcomed NHS staff from Weston General Hospital for a day of team building fun.

It marked the fifth year running the club held the annual get-together, originally conceived as a thanks giving gesture for health workers who worked during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Despite the foul weather threatening to disrupt the event on Sunday, May 28, the fun-filled day went off without a hitch.

A dozen teams, each comprising of doctors, nurses, administrators and their families, participated in three 45-minute games.

The Cider Girls emerged victorious for the second year running, their win ensured under the leadership of club member, Allan Corbett.

Current ladies vice captain, Louise Carman, with support from nurse Beth Goldworthy, was in charge of the day's activities.

Ms Carman said: "Despite the rain we had another great day.

"I know first hand how much everyone at the hospital looks forward to this day and have a bit of fun playing bowls with colleagues that we wouldn't normally meet face to face."

Chairman Nigel Walker expressed his delight at hosting these dedicated health workers for another year.

He said: "We are delighted to be able to host the hard-working and dedicated people of our NHS local hospital.

"They work incredibly hard and it's great to see them let their hair down for a few hours.

"Bowls is changing and we are hoping at least some of them had such a good time, they are tempted to join the club as we are always looking for new members.

"I'd also like to thank all the members who helped with the organisation and planning and who turned up on the day to make it run so smoothly and such a success!"
