Winscombe Bowling Club had all three of their teams in the Somerset County League playing this week, whilst they also had fixtures in the Weston and District Over 55’s League and the North Somerset Ladies Triples League.
In the Somerset County League both the B and C Teams won away at Chew Stoke and Ashcombe Park whilst the A team lost at home to Congresbury.
The A team took on Congresbury in the Premier 2 division of the SCL and came off second best after losing all three rinks, with Congresbury running away 78-47 winners.
In Division 2 North Winscombe B took on Ashcombe C away and returned with a decisive 72-35 victory to continue their unbeaten run this season.
The B team won two of the three rinks on the day, with the team of Pow, Keenan, Horler, and Coleman recording an impressive 32-4 win in their match.
The C team took on Chew Stoke B in Division 3 North and just scraped past their opposition by one shot to win 58-57 overall.
The rink of Holt, Webber, Williamson, and Kibble were the best performers for the squad after winning their match 29-21.
In the Weston and District Over 55’s League the Winscombe Originals played Ashcombe Crusaders at Home in a top of the table battle.
The Originals beat top of the table Ashcombe 120-100 to maintain their unbeaten run.
The Originals won four of the six rinks to get their 20-point advantage, with good wins on the rinks skipped by Dave Brown, Tom Ellis, Graham Neville and Captain Geoff Coombe.
Also in the Weston Over 55’s League Winscombe’s new Pioneers team met tough opposition and were out bowled on two rinks.
There were some good performances, particularly from Mike Nash who maintained his good form to win his match, but the team would go on to lose 75-134 overall after only one rink managed to win.
Finally Winscombe’s Ladies played Clevedon Away in the North Somerset Triples League and won by one shot after a very close game.
It was Winscombe Captain Margaret Howell’s rink who carried the day, winning by eleven shots in the final match to counter the small deficits on the other two rinks by just one shot, giving the Ladies the 46-45 win.
