Uphill Castle CC continued their campaign in the Somerset Cricket League at home to North Perrott this weekend and lost by 127 runs after they were unable to match Perrott’s impressive run rate.
Castle won the toss and elected to field first, but their bowlers failed to assert any real pressure on the Perrott batters as they hit 304 from their allotted 45 overs, including a rapid 106 from James Salaman.
Charlie Huke took the first wicket of the day for Castle as he posted figures of 1-58 from nine overs, Nasir Ghafori was lead wicket taker after his 2-57 from nine whilst Himesha Halneththige and Hayden Watts also took one each, with Watts removing the imperious Salaman late in the game.
With 305 runs needed, Castle’s batsmen failed to make any real dent in the total, with wickets falling at regular intervals and the first half of their line up combining for just 32 runs by the 14th over.
Tommi Davis came in at six to hit 30 whilst Halneththige and Huke came to the crease late on to hit 65 and 21 respectively, but their efforts were futile as Castle were bowled out for 177 in the 39th over to lose the fixture by 127 runs.
