Weston-super-Mare AFC will be hosting a pre-season match against Bristol City U21s on Tuesday July 23rd, a game that will also serve as a testimonial match for club legend Ray Cashley.
Cashley played 262 games for the Robins and 101 games for The Seagulls during his illustrious career as a player, has also run Weston’s club lottery for the past 27 years, during which he has helped raise over £2 million.
Weston AFC’s Managing Director Oli Bliss knows Ray well. He said: “When Ray’s footballing career came to an end, he was looking for a new career and my Dad offered him our lottery and later on our striker draw collections.
“He is such an easy man to work with. He just carries on with his work without any fuss. He is so reliable and is so down to earth.
“There are many times that people have asked me is that Ray Cashley because they see Ray as their hero from his Bristol City days.
“It is an honour for the club and our family to be able to organise this testimonial for Ray – He fully deserves it.”
The match is part of Weston’s pre-season schedule with games against Exeter City, Slimbridge, Tiverton Town and Yeovil Town already confirmed.
Tickets will be available to buy soon on the Weston AFC website.
