Victoria Bowling Club were successful again this week with the highlight undoubtedly belonging to the A team who travelled to Bristol to take on the unbeaten league leaders in the top league of Somerset Bowls.
The match began with Bristol taking a narrow lead as expected, however, The Vic stayed determined and managed to claim a sensational 12-0 win.
Leading rink of the day was the Davies, Coumis, Owen and Bradley quartet who were unbelievably 10-0 down at one point but came back to win 25-21.
D Nutt also returned to his old stomping ground and led his team of Carpenter, Wheatley and Sloman to a 17-14 victory.
Cooper, Gazzard, Puddy and Jackson 21-19 completed the job for the Victoria Club and left the team in dizzying heights.
The Ladies at the Victoria Club got the week off to a great start before the A team’s win when they took on Castle Cary in the Southey Cup.
Sue Cooper laid the foundations for the victory with an outstanding showing in the singles by winning 21-8, and was backed up by the triplet of Holland, Slavin and Williams who won 16-14.
Holland beautifully took the jack back for a crucial three shot gain to see The Vic progress to the next round winning 59-52.
Tuesday saw the Victoria Vikings travel to Mark Moor and this turned into an epic encounter with the match being decided by the final woods as The Vic eventually triumphed by a two-shot margin at 115-113.
There was no doubt who starred in this performance as the Fairhurst rink of himself, who produced a near perfect display of bowling, Hollier and George claimed a super 30-7 win.
Captain B Johnson, Nicholls and Hubbard won their match by seven at 22-15 and finally Carr, Puddy and Williams battled well to win a tight game 20-19.
There was another good result for Vic Ladies on Thursday when they welcomed Clarence Park to the Quadrant, but the niceties ended there with the Vic winning by a crushing 60-30.
Leading the way was the triple of Taylor, Gibbs and Stevens who won by a wonderful 27-5, which was added to by Wilson, Turner and Holland who won 20-11.
Saturday saw the Victoria C team take on near neighbours Ashcombe C in a Somerset County match.
The match was hard fought and went all the way, but it was The Vic who got over the line to win 60-51.
The best win came from the Joes rink with Gobby, Langridge and Frost who secured a seven shot win at 20-13 and then the Barlow, Rossiter, Nicholls and Hubbard also won when the points were secure.
