Weston-super-Mare CC lost by 32 runs to second-placed Midsomer Norton CC this weekend in their West of England Premier League fixture.
Despite bowling out their opposition for 197 runs, Weston were unable to remain in play for their innings and found themselves losing their last wicket on 159 runs, with 10 overs still to play.
Norton opened the batting and hit consistently to make their 197 as Weston’s bowlers put in a strong effort, with all six taking at least one wicket and Paul Van Meekeren recording figures of 3-33 from his 8.2 overs.
They also managed to dismiss Norton for a reachable 191 runs by the 48th over, but the team could not reach the total with the bat.
Shabel Ahmed got Weston off to a strong start after the break, his 59, along with Jack Press’ 10 and Dexter Trego’s 14, helped the team reach 103-4 by the start of the 28th over.
From here though six wickets fell in 10 overs for just 56 runs, with only Van Meekeren and Robert Turner hitting double digits, as Norton bowled Weston out for 159 and consigned them to a tough 32-run loss.
