Uphill Castle CC were subject to a two-wicket away loss this weekend as their opposition Long Sutton reached the 175-run target with just under 10 overs remaining.
Castle batted first and went on to produce competitive batting and bowling spells but were thwarted by a late 65 runs from Sutton’s Dan Lazarides.
Paddy Holyday was Castle’s biggest hitter as he contributed 36 runs off 57 deliveries, whilst James Wakefield, Tom Llewellyn, and Charlie Huke all hit over 20.
Opener Ben Castle also added 11 more runs as he partnered Wakefield to take Castle to a fast start before their first wicket at 42-1.
In contrast, Castle’s bottom order were unable to add anything substantial to the run total as the away team were bowled for 175 runs.
Sutton came into bat and Castle’s bowlers looked like they might topple them as they managed to take consistent wickets at 55-2, 70-6, and 100-8, whilst Ashley Allen recorded the best figures of 4-11 from his nine overs.
However, Sutton’s Lazarides came in at eight to hit a late 65 runs and take his team past the winning total after 35.4 overs, condemning Castle to the two-wicket loss.
Uphill Castle now sit 6th in the and go on to play Bridgwater 3rd XI on June 29th.
