Winscombe Bowling Club hosted their annual Two Wood pairs Greenkeeper’s competition this week with Lew Collier, the club’s greenkeeper, taking the top prize.
The competition takes place with competing pairs playing four matches of one hour or seven ends and the two best pairs on points and shot difference progress in to the final.
Lew Collier won alongside teammate Greg Keenan, triumphing in the final over the runner-up pairing of Graham Neville and Malcolm Dorrington.
Into league play for the week and Winscombe are still unbeaten in Division One of the Weston and District Over 55’s League and already on course to the title but suffered shock defeat in the KO Cup at Clevedon Promenade.
In their latest match they outplayed Portishead RBL to win by 32 shots and picked up another 16 points.
Meanwhile Winscombe’s new Pioneers team continue to struggle and lost at Victoria Vikings who they had beaten in the previous home fixture between the two sides.
Winscombe managed to win on two rinks and picked up four league points.
In the week’s Somerset County League games Winscombe A team in Premier League 2 won v Taunton Deane at home by 5 shots and collected10 points.
The B and C teams both lost with the B team losing for the first time this season, at home to Portishead by 23 shots.
The C team were away at Mark Moor lost on all three rinks and by total of 28 shots.
Winscombe Ladies have now found their form and drew at home to North Petherton in the Wessex League.
They then went on to win two more league games in the North Somerset Triples League.
First, they won at Clevedon by 14 shots and then went on to repeat the trick as they beat Long Ashton two rinks to one and by 17 shots.
