Uphill Castle Cricket Club’s 1st XI took on Taunton St Andrews this weekend and suffered their heaviest defeat of the season as they lost by nine wickets after being bowled out for just 61 runs.
Castle were coming off the back of a strong win against Bridgwater the week prior in which their batsmen comfortably chased down 143 runs, but they were unable to replicate their form as only James Wakefield managed to break double digits.
Taunton sent Castle into bat first and quickly dismissed openers Ben Castle and Chare Smith one and four runs respectively, setting the tone for the game.
Castle would then go on to lose wickets in the 11th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, and 18th overs for minimal runs as they were reduced to 60-9.
Their final wicket eventually fell early in the 21st over as the line-up was bowled out for a total of 61 runs.
Having all but done the job with their bowling Taunton came into bat and knocked off Castle’s total after 10.3 overs, with Smith taking Castle’s one wicket of the day.
Uphill Castle now sit seventh in the Somerset Premier League and play third placed Butleigh on July 13th.
