After the first team match got abandoned, Weston-super-Mare Cricket Club’s 2nd team became the main event of the weekend and they continued their good form with a two-wicket victory over Huntspill and District.
Huntspill batted first and made 219 runs from the full 40 over innings as Weston’s bowlers took it turns and shared around the wickets.
Andrew Fear was Weston’s lead wicket taker as he recorded figures of 2-16 from his three overs, helped by his dismissal of two Huntspill batsmen in the 29th over.
George Bemand, Eden Wardle, and Harry Gadsen also all took one wicket each, with Gadsen delivering two maidens during his eight over spell.
Weston then came into bat knowing they had to better Huntspill’s 219, and they put in a team effort again to go past the total in the 39th over as the squad saw seven players go past double digits.
Fear top scored again for Weston with his unbeaten 65 whilst Jack Trego contributed 44 runs, Myles Bliss, 35, and Kruz Belcher, 22, to take Weston to 222-8 and the two-wicket victory.
Weston 2s now sit fourth in Division 2 of the Somerset Cricket League and play Lympsham and Belvedere on July 13th.
