Weston-super-Mare Cricket Club took on Golden Hill this week and came up just barely short as they were bowled out two runs shy of the target, despite 77 runs from Lachie Bailey.
Golden Hill opened the batting and put on a solid performance as they made 254 runs from their full 50 overs with every batter contributing something.
Paul Van Meekeren, Dexter Trego, Harvey Richards, and Bailey all took two wickets a piece, with Richards recording the best figures of 2-33 from 10 overs as Weston’s bowled well but were unable to stop Golden Hill from scoring.
In reply Weston were taken to 233-7 after 45 overs by a good team effort with Bailey’s 77 runs being added to by Van Meekeren’s 49, Dexter Trego’s 39, and Chris Davidson’s 31.
However, after Davidson’s dismissal early in the 48th over to put Weston at 245-9 and needing 10 more runs for the win, the bottom order of the batting line-up collapsed for seven more runs across the next over and a half, consigning Weston to a narrow two run defeat with just three balls left in the game.
Weston now go on to face Clevedon on July 20th.
