Weston-super-Mare AFC are kicking off their 2024/25 campaign in the Vanarama National League South this weekend, taking on Worthing at The Optima Stadium.
The two sides are familiar with each other having played twice in the league last season, including in the last fixture of both sides’ 2023/24 seasons.
The Seagulls made the long trip along the South coast for that game, but Worthing were the better team on the day, walking away with a 4-2 win.
However, Weston had thwarted them at home in the previous fixture with second-half goals from James Dodd, Dayle Grubb, Jordan Bastin, and Reuben Reid giving the home team a dominant 4-0 win in December.
Ahead of the game Weston manager Scott Bartlett said: “It’s a good to have a home game to start off the season.
“We played them at their place last game of the season [and they beat us 4-2] but that’ll be no reflection on Saturday’s game.
“We know a bit about Worthing, they’re a team in transition at the moment; they’ve signed three or four players, they’ve got a new manager, and they’ll be wanting to come here on Saturday to give us a game.”
