Weston AFC are coming off the back of their fourth win in a row this season after they beat Hornchurch 3-2 and will now look to continue their winning run against Slough Town FC.

The Seagulls scored three first half goals at The Optima for the second time already this season and managed to hang on as Hornchurch tried their best to claw back the deficit.

Weston, however, stayed in the game and thanks to goals from Brandon Bak, debutant Dylan Morgan, and an own goal managed to record their fourth three-point haul of the season.

After the game manager Scott Bartlett gave credit to the opposition for giving his side such a tough game despite going down early. He said:

“They were the better team in the second half. They did cause us problems in the first half as well, but we dealt with them quite well.

“The three goals in the first half obviously won us the game. I was a bit disappointed to concede at 2-0 up but our reaction to that was excellent to get the third and then obviously we conceded another in the second half.

“It wasn’t a comfortable win; we were searching on the sideline for answers to try and counter their tactical changes and get some help in certain areas. Look it’s always a battle in this league and this game was certainly a battle, particularly in the second half.”

On his side’s four game win streak he also added: “What we have done [so far this season] is the things we can control; defending our box properly, trying to control the tempo, managing difficult moments and adversity like when they scored today, we’ve done those things very well.

“In each game we’ve given ourselves a chance, given ourselves the best opportunity to get three points.

“It won’t always be that way, but long may it continue at the moment.”

Weston AFC now go on to play Slough Town FC on Tuesday September 3rd, a team who are on their own four-game winning streak and currently sit atop the table.

On the game Bartlett said: “It’s always a tough game against Slough.

“They’ve built a really new, exciting squad at Slough on what I can only assume is a shoestring budget for this level, same as us.

“And what they’ve also got, like us, is stability in the board and the management and it’s no coincidence that they’ve started the season really well.”
