Cleeve Cricket Club 1sts concluded an impressive season in the Seniors Division with a disappointing loss to Winterbourne.
Despite finishing at a respectable sixth place, they were defeated by 122 runs, resulting in their dismissal for a mere 84 runs.
The Cleeve team made a promising start initially.
Dan Jones managed the first successful catch off a Jack Spiers delivery, removing Ahmad for 8, resulting in 12-1.
Maintaining the momentum, Andy Barnsley secured the next wicket.
His 7 overs ended with a score of 1 for 31, taking down Kay for 19 leading to 53-2.
Nonetheless, the proceedings changed course after a 77-run partnership, and despite a diligent effort, Winterbourne sealed their innings with 205 in their designated 45 overs.
Responding to this, Cleeve started steadily but soon hit a rough patch.
The initial flicker of hope, Mitch Want, was caught for 16 at 34-1, leaving Barnsley bowled at 4.
This was followed by Sam Williams who only managed to make 1, as James Ball became the top scorer for Cleeve, but was ultimately bowled for 33.
In an unfortunate turn of events, straight after Spiers with a score of 1, Jones was bowled for 2.
This led to Hance and Tom Carpenter both scoring 0 and 1 respectively.
The only relief came in the form of Alfie Parsons who scored double figures, but he too was ousted LBW for 11, resulting in Cleeve's dismissal.
Despite the setback, Cleeve managed to end the season in sixth place, trailing by just 11 points from Downend in the Seniors Division.
For a team filled predominantly with home-grown players, the season was a notable success, building on their back-to-back promotions.
