Weston U11s braved the elements as they hosted Minehead Barbarians and Hornets.
In the first game, a mixed Weston and Minehead team took on Hornets in a fiercely contested match.
Both teams aimed to play open, expansive rugby.
Hornets started the brighter, but the Barbarians quickly adapted.
Wyatt displayed remarkable speed on the outside and appeared set to score a brilliant solo try, but a high tackle forced him off the pitch.
This led to the introduction of Katie, who is rapidly becoming a confident and knowledgeable player.
As the game progressed, James again demonstrated his agility and ability to dodge tackles.
Rohan, returning from a neck injury, showed no signs of shying away from contact; he carried well and was the first player to hit the rucks.
When the Barbarians needed forward momentum, Laszlo was ready to make the hard yards.
Despite being five players short, the Weston team gave their all.
Players of the day were awarded to Wyatt and Rohan.
In the second game, Weston faced Hornets.
The first half began brightly for Weston, with tries from Seb and Freddy-George.
However, a kicking game ensued, which Hornets enjoyed more, resulting in two more tries for them.
Weston retaliated with a powerful try from Oscar, but Hornets responded with another score of their own.
The second half fizzled out with another try from Freddy-George.
During the half-time team talk, the crowd, now several deep, called for passing rugby.
Weston received the kick-off, quickly demonstrating their intent to play.
The aggression levels surged, led by the counter-rucking of Stan and Seb.
This resulted in a superb counter-ruck, with Levi passing to Rhea, who drew several defenders, opening up a gap for Freddy-George to complete his hat trick.
As the game opened up, the cover tackling by Albie and Barnaby helped Weston regain possession repeatedly.
Weston now played freely, scoring at will.
Hornets never gave up, but Weston's power game and expansive style proved too much for the brave Hornets team.
Every player contributed significantly, particularly Rohan, Katie, Wyatt, Laszlo, and James, who played two matches.
In game two, Oscar, who was everywhere, and Albie, for his cover tackling, were named players of the week.
It was a tough choice, with everyone fulfilling their roles in what was a superb team performance.
